  • Bodily Injury: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
  • Property Damage: $15,000 per accident.

Colorado Teen Driving Laws

Colorado requires teens to hold a learner's permit for at least 12 months before applying for their Colorado driver's license. Steps for obtaining a driver's license will vary depending on the teen's age: 

  • At 15 to 15 and a half years old, teens must complete a 30-hour driver's education course before applying for their permit. Once a permit is obtained, drivers must log 50 hours of driving time and complete a 6-hour behind-the-wheel course before applying for a driver's license.
  • At 15 and a half to 16 years old, teens can complete a 30-hour driver's education course or a 4-hour classroom driver awareness course before applying for their permit. Once a permit is obtained, drivers must log 50 hours of driving time and complete a 6-hour behind-the-wheel course before applying for a driver's license.
  • At 16 to 17 years old, teens can immediately apply for a permit. Once a permit is obtained, drivers must log 50 hours of driving time before applying for a driver's license.
