Nebraska requires all drivers to have liability insurance for both property damage and bodily injury, which pays for any damage or injuries caused by an accident in which you were at fault. Nebraska requires the following minimum liability coverage:

  • Bodily Injury: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.
  • Property Damage: $20,000 per accident.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.

Nebraska Teen Driving Laws

Nebraska operates under a Graduated Drivers License (GDL) Law, which includes three stages: Learner's Permit, Provisional Operator's Permit, and Operator's License. 

  • Learner's Permit: At 15, Nebraska teens can apply for their learner's permit. With a learner's permit, teens must complete 50 hours of supervised driving, with 10 hours being at night.
  • Provisional Operator's Permit: At 16, teens may obtain a provisional operator's permit after completing their supervised driving requirements and holding their permit for 6 months. With this permit, teens are restricted from driving between midnight and 6:00 AM. 
  • Operator's License: At 17, teens who have held their provisional operator's permit for at least a year are eligible for an operator's license.
